John B. Halvachs Jr., 86, husband of the late Rosalie Hinton Halvachs, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1931 in East St. Louis, Illinois, John was the son of the late John B. Halvachs Sr. and Gertrude Katherine McCormick Halvachs
John received a Degree in Psychology from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and was within a few hours of having his Master's Degree. He served as the personnel manager for 23 years at General Cable in Lawrenceburg. John was a professional baseball player in the New York Giants farm system in the early 1950's, and was called up to "the bigs" for a month. He served as the head coach of the Anderson County High School Bearcat Baseball team for several years and enjoyed playing golf.
John is survived by his two children, Steve E. (Alison) Halvachs of Lexington and Debbie L. Coulter of Lawrenceburg; his three grandchildren, Tyler Gritton, Erika Gritton, and Chris Coulter; his siblings, Jim Halvachs of Granite City, Illinois, and Dolores Hill of Decatur, Illinois.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 120 Gatewood Ave., Lawrenceburg, KY. The Rev. Jeff Estacio will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
