Joyce Ann Wicke Moore, 85, wife of the late Billie C. Moore, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at home in Versailles.
Born Oct. 26, 1930 in Lawrenceburg, she was a daughter of the late Richard Philip and Mary Willie Hughes Wicke. Mrs. Moore was a Lawrenceburg High School graduate, and entered the Nazareth School of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. There she dealt directly with patients and attended classes earning her diploma in 1954 and the opportunity to take the registered nurse state board exam.
She worked as a RN briefly at St. Joseph Hospital and retired after 34 years of service with Woodford Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Moore was a founding owner of Moore's Meat with her husband Bill, and was a longtime member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Versailles. She will be mostly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.
Survivors include seven of eight children: Philip (Susan) Moore, John (Mary Lee Mahr) Moore, Tom (Sharon Hunt) Moore, Nancy (George) Maranville, Chris (Lynne) Moore, Becky (Michael) Bryant, and Patricia (Eddie) Slone; nine grandchildren, Jaclyn, Claudia and Sawyer Moore, Anna Laura and Georgia Maranville, Philip and Claire Bryant, and Emily and Luke Slone; one sister, Mary C. "Juggie" (Barney) Mulholland; one brother, Richard "Bobby" Wicke; friend and business partner, Dickie Lacefield and family; special friends, Ron and Donna Whitmer; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Moore; a grandson, Riley Maranville; one sister, Nancy Wicke; one brother, Alvin "Bum" Wicke; and special friends, Ann Dozier and Pat Edds.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 8, at St. Leo Catholic Church, 255 Huntertown Road, Versailles, KY 40383 by the Rev. Danny Schwendeman. Visitation was held Friday at St. Leo Catholic Church before services. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Woodford County. Honorary pallbearers were sons-in-law and daughters-in-law.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Leo Catholic Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, on Harrodsburg Road. handled arrangements.
