Leroy Cotton, 85, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Cotton was born in Whitley County to Raymond Taylor and Lula Tucker Cotton Walls. He was raised by Aris and Lula VanMeter in Franklin County.
He served in the Korean War with the Navy. He retired from IBM in Lexington and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Optimist Club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Amaryllis Catlett Cotton; two sons, David (Brenda Lowe) Cotton, Lexington, and Doug (Debbie) Cotton, Louisville; a daughter, Terri Birdwhistell, Lawrenceburg; brother, Robert (Bea) Cotton, Park Hills; grandchildren, Laura (Sam) Hagan, Lawrenceburg, Lee Birdwhistell, Berkeley, Calif., Liz (Josh) Basham, Leitchfield, and Amanda Cotton, Louisville; great-grandchildren, Reid Basham, Leitchfield, Rylee Stephens and Heather Shanks, both of Lawrenceburg.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Cotton and a granddaughter, Lindsay Birdwhistell.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr and Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. A private burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
