Mary Joyce Doane Atkins, 73, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at Heritage Hall Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceburg. She was the wife of the late Stephen Charles Atkins and was born December 22, 1940, in Jasper, Ind. to the late Bertram Cecil and Lillian Rose Fehribach Doane.

Mrs. Atkins was a retired counselor in substance abuse treatment for the State of California Dept. of Corrections and a former teacher in Long Beach, Calif. She was a 1961 graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She is a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and served on the Church Parish Council and the Social Activities Club. She was a life member of the VFW Post 4075, a member of Fit'n Fun Exercise Group, a former board member of Meals on Wheels, and a retired peace officer with State of CA.
Survivors include three children, Scott Atkins of Burbank, Calif., Patrick Atkins of Fresno, and Karen (Adam) Blackburn of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Ruth Ellen Doane, SP of Indianapolis; and three brothers, Mark (Valerie) Doane of South Carolina, Paul (Linda) Doane of Missouri, and Roger (Judy) Doane of Indiana.
Funeral mass was held Monday, March 17 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Fr. John Curtis and Fr. Chris Clay officiated. Burial followed in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation was held Sunday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with a rosary service.
Memorials are suggested to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
