William E. Sayre, 81, of Hadley, N.Y., formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Born April 13, 1932, in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of John L. and Violet (Tomlinson) Sayre.
William served as a minister, completing his student ministry at Garrison Church of Christ, Garrison, Ky., then at ElBethel Church of Christ, Port Jefferson Church of Christ, West Islip Church of Christ, and East Northport Church of Christ. He later was the head of the bereavement group at Huntington Hospital prior to his retirement in 1998.
He moved in with his daughter in the Town of Day in 2008.
William enjoyed woodworking, travel and gardening.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Juanita Durr Sayre.
Survivors include four children, Larry E. Sayre and his wife, Barbara, of New York, Timothy J. Sayre and his wife, Julie, of Oklahoma, Kathy Kramer and her husband, Frank, of New York, Lewis A. Sayre and his wife, Rhonda, of New York; one brother, Jim Sayre and his wife, Mary, of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted April 12 at the Neconset Christian Church, 247 Smithtown Blvd., Neconset, N.Y. A memorial service will be held in May in Lawrenceburg.
