Mary Lou Smith Gaines, 89, died at home with family by her side on March 17, 2013.
A native of Franklin County, she was born April 26, 1923, to Henry Irvin and Alice Lillian Shingleton Smith.
She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church. Mrs. Gaines was a devoted Bible reader, housewife, mother, grandmother and foster parent.
Survivors include her sons, Doug Gaines (Bonnie), Frankfort, David L. Gaines (Keith), Lawrenceburg and Ricky C. Gaines (Serena), Lawrenceburg; brother, Charles Smith (Patsy); sisters, Pearlie Pulliam, Stella Cook, Sue Gravitt; nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Mary E. Gaines; brother-in-law, Clarence Miller; sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith; and her loving caregiver, Carrie Epperson.
Mrs. Gaines was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd T. Gaines; her parents; a brother, Henry Eugene Smith and two sisters, Pettie Cornish and Helen Miller.
Services for Mrs. Gaines will be Thursday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 20 from 4-8 p.m.
Doug Gaines Jr., David C. Gaines, Melvin Gaines, David T. Gaines, Patrick Gaines and Jeff Gaines will serve as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601.
