Stanley Phillips, 90, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

He was born in Mercer County, Ky., to the late Davie P. and Mattie Jane Kurtz Phillips.
Stanley worked as a security guard for 34 years before retiring at Boulevard Distillers. He also farmed and was a member of the Sand Spring Baptist Church and a former member of the Stringtown Ruritan Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 74 years, Frances E. West Phillips; a son Stanley Phillips, Jr. (Sue) of Hayes, Va.; two daughters Mary Hawkins (James) and Mattie Spaulding (Lonnie Jr.) of Lawrenceburg; a daughter-in-law Martha Phillips of Lawrenceburg and a son-in-law Garry Carpenter of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren, Brenda (Bob) Suttles, Linda (Johnny) Wolverton, Wayne Hawkins, Donna Phillips, Michael (Rhonda) Phillips, Steven (Amy) Phillips, Tina (Dwayne) Calonna, Alan (Leighann) Phillips, Kellye Cheek, Phillip Carpenter; three step grandchildren Krista Spaulding, Michael and Ashley Brigers; 12 great grandchildren; a step great-grandchild; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Lena Sims of Harrodsburg.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John R. Phillips and Marvin Ray Phillips; two daughters, Ruth Ann Carpenter and Frances Lucille Phillips; three sisters, Lela Phillips, Ruth Grider and Sarah Hall; and five brothers, Raymond, David W., Carl, Alvin, and Albert Phillips.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Spring Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Hawkins, Michael Phillips, Steven Phillips, Alan Phillips, Phillip Carpenter and Brandon Carmickle. The remainder of Mr. Phillips grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary bearers along with Billy Bottoms, Marion and Ruby Frances Wilson, Wilma Dean C.C. and Hilda Fallis.
