Mrs. Marguerite Marie Nolting, 98, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Lutheran Community Home.
Born June 24, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edward and Emma (Borgman) Newkirk.
On April 4, 1937, she married Harvard W. Nolting, Sr., who preceded her in death Nov. 19, 1998.
Marguerite was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. A 1933 graduate of Shields High School, she and her husband were co-owners of Nolting's Grocery for a number of years.
Always active in the community, she was a former member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, past President of Ladies Aid # 1 and a member of the Ladies Missionary League both of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She was a former member and held office in the Valparaiso University Guild, All Thumbs Garden Club, Girls Club, and was a member of the Women's council of the Boys Club. Marguerite was also an avid Bridge player. From 1967 to 1983, she lived at Lake and Forest Club in Brownstown and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church; and from 1983 to 1997 she lived at Hilton Head, S.C., and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Marguerite is survived by her children Thomas (Mary Lou) Nolting, Bill (Emily) Nolting, Phyllis (John) Judd, John (Helen) Nolting; grandchildren Thomas Nolting, Jr., Mark (Jane) Nolting, Nancy (Jim) Hormuth, Cynthia (Mike) Munroe, Jeff (Brigette) Nolting, Suzie (Craig) Lehman, Kristin (Dan) Spires, Laurie Marie Judd, Mary (Matt) Hitzeman, Sarah (Brent) Edwards; 19 great grandchildren, sister Ella May (Norman) Ulrich, and brother Ray (Ruth) Newkirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Katherine Noelker, and daughter-in-law Janet Nolting.
Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. James Rodriguez, and Vicar Mark Huff officiating.
Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
