Stephen L. Springer, 48, Freetown, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014.
Mr. Springer was born Nov. 4, 1965 in Indianapolis to Evan and Nicole Williams Springer. On Oct. 11, 2003 in Brownstown, he married Janet Hall and she survives.
He was employed with Tri-Star Engineering, Bedford, and contracted to Bedford Crane Naval Base.
Mr. Springer retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW
in Greenwood; member of the American Legion; belonged to the Indiana Blue Chips; an IHSAA official certified in all sports and varsity softball coach at Scottsburg High School.
He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Greenwood and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown.
Survivors include one son, Sterling Springer, Brownstown; one daughter, Shelby Springer, Campbellsburg, Ind.; three step sons: Jerry (Tabatha) Fisher, Michigan; Christopher Hinton, Brownstown and Nicholas Hinton, Richmond, Ind.; one brother, Shawn (Jennifer) Springer, Lafayette; and two sisters, Stacy (David) Griffin, Martinsville, and Shannon (Bill) Glidden, Whiteland, Ind.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with a memorial service to be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the United Methodist Church in Greenwood. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.
