Ralph Young, 86, Medora, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Young was born Jan. 19, 1927 in Kitts, Ky., the son of Ray and Esther Collins Young. On July 20, 1948 in Detroit, he married Sarah Edith Yeary, who survives.
He was a member of the U.S. Army and served as military police at Camp Atterbury and Hawaii.
Mr. Young retired from the Golden Foundry after more than 37 years of employment.
He was also a member of Medora Masonic Lodge #328 and the Norman Conservation Club.
Mr. Young loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting events and he also enjoyed bluegrass music, dancing, fishing and watching NASCAR races. It was a true pleasure to him to visit the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Liberty Christian Church.
Besides his wife, he's survived by four sons: Jack Young, Medora; Don (Amy) Young, Winterville, N.C.; Jeff (Linda) Young, Seymour and Doug (Tina) Young, Medora; two daughters: Sharon (Glen) Davidson and Marcella Young, both of Seymour; two brothers, Paul Young, Seymour, and Kenneth (Glenda) Young, Norman; two sisters, Virginia Helton, Medora, and Darlene (Don) Silence, Dayton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren: Greg (Michelle) Davidson, Jon (Tracey) Davidson, Michael (Amy) Davidson, Craig Young, Hollie (David) Perkins, Landon Young, Kelly Young, Jordan (Lauren) Young, Brooke (Ryan) Stein, Ashley (Alberto) Saldana, Leah Young and Farrah Young and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Robert Young and Charles Young; one granddaughter, Angela LeeAnn Young; and two great granddaughters, Chloe Davidson and Isabella Perkins.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Ronnie Plumer officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 and from 9 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Norman Conservation Club and the Don & Dana Myers Cancer Center.
