William Daniel "Dan" Bowman, 84, formerly of Brownstown, passed away Tuesday, February 26 at 11:15 pm at the Covered Bridge Health Campus. He had been ill for two months. Mr. Bowman was born August 28, 1928 in Indianapolis to Claude and Dorothy Knapp Bowman who preceded him in death. He graduated from Clearspring High School in 1946. Dan served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 until he was honorably discharged August 6, 1952. He was a retired truck driver and former owner of Bowman Disposal. He was a member of Washington Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons 13, Brownstown American Legion and a member of Brownstown Christian Church. Dan was a sports fan and enjoyed watching Indiana University Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts and NASCAR. On July 3, 1971 he married Doris Jackson and she preceded him in death August 13, 2010. He is survived by two daughters Cindy (Bill) Elser, Naples, FL and Rachel (Mike) Combs, Lindale, TX; three step-children Gary Jackson, Brownstown; Jerry (Debbie) Jackson, Brownstown and Gail (Floyd) Penrod of Fishers. Two brothers, Dale (Nella) Bowman, Seymour, IN; Doug Bowman, Brownstown; two sisters Sara Warren and Mary Jane Fleetwood of Brownstown, and brother-in-law Morris (Judy) Hanner of Kurtz. Six grandchildren Tracey (Mike) Keltz, Lori (Ryan) Genth, Jordan Elser, Chris Combs, Ryan Combs and Brooke Wray; nine step-grandchildren Mendy (Bruce) Stahl, Ginger (Wes) Breeding, Jon Jackson, Jennifer Jackson, Lacey Jackson, Angie (Wes) Hartley, Amy (Michael) Davidson, Abigail (Aaron) Duncan and Daniel Penrod and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Aletha Ann Bowman Wray, a brother, Donald Mac Bowman, a sister, Linda Hanner, a granddaughter, Stacey Rae Sweeney and a step-grandson, Matthew Paul Polson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Brownstown Christian Church on Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Hogg officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
