Barbara Joan Deckard, 81, Brownstown, passed away at 12:13 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at her residence.

Barbara was a member of the Brownstown Christian Church. She was a 50-year member of the Beta Mu Psi Iota XI of Brownstown. She was a homemaker.
Barbara graduated from Ellettsville High School in 1951.
She dearly loved and enjoyed IU basketball and the Indiana Pacers.
Barbara had been a bookkeeper at the Monroe County Courthouse and had been a receptionist for Boeing in Kansas, and was a partner in Deckard Petroleum Distribution (Marathon) in Brownstown from 1970 through 1980.
She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed sewing and piece quilting, traveling and spending time with her family.
Born Jan. 7, 1933, in Heltonville, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Elmer Blackwell and Alice Gwin Blackwell. On Dec. 26, 1954 at Ellettsville United Methodist Church, she married James David Deckard, who preceded her in death July 17, 2003.
Survivors include a son, Jay Deckard of Brownstown, whose wife Jody served as Barbara's caregiver in her final months; a brother, Garreth (Ann) Blackwell, Ellettsville; twin grandchildren, Dusty and Deah Deckard; and several nieces and nephews; and cousins, Wally Stewart of Bloomington and Paul Stewart of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents and husband, a brother, Morris Blackwell, and Freeda and Clarence Stewart, who raised Barbara after the death of her parents, and a cousin, Glen Stewart, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at Brownstown Christian Church with Steve Kehrer officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday with a Psi Iota XI service and from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at the church.
Memorials may be given to Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center and Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
Arrangements are being handled by Zabel Funeral Home of Brownstown.
