Betty Jane Cross Geyer passed away on Feb. 25, 2013, at Blair Ridge where she has resided for many years.
She was the daughter of Cecil B. Cross and Grace Lockman Cross.
Born on Aug. 14, 1923, in Brownstown. On June 14, 1946, she married Ray L. Geyer of Vallonia, Ind. Of this union she became mother of Todd (Randy) Randolph Geyer (Indianapolis), and Nancy Jane Geyer Kuyoth (husband: Robert) Cape Coral, Fla.; grandmother of Randolph Todd Geyer, Indianapolis, and Richard Thomas Geyer (wife: Ashley), parents of great-granddaughters Sandra Elizabeth and Carolyn Grace of Durango, Colo.
Betty attended Purdue University.
She was named Woman of the Year in 1971 by the Peru Daily Tribune.
She was responsible for establishing a sheltered workshop for the mentally handicapped children and, from 1961 to 1981, her prime love was being a teacher, principal and executive director of Gateway Center.
Betty was active in many civic activities; member of the DAR, First Christian Church, Red Cross, the Fair Board, the History society, the Peru League of Women Voters, Tri Kappa and a member of the Eastern Star since the age of 18.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 with the service following at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St. in Peru. The pastor Ron Jensen will officiate. Internment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown, at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1.
