Dorothy J. Mallatt, 83, Bedford, died at 11:23 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at I.U. Health, Bloomington.

She was born March 3, 1929 in Lawrence County, to the late Hobart and Jennie (White) Spray. On Jan. 7, 1951 she married Donald E. Mallat in Lawrence County; and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2001.
Mrs. Mallatt was a member of Fairview Community Church. She graduated from Shawswick High School in 1947. She held the longest membership, 65 years, in the Fairview Ladies Aid and was a member of the Flatwoods Neighborhood Club. She was an avid seamstress and quilter, sharing her talents with many including the making of many puppy pillows, lap robes and kimonos for Riley Children's Hospital.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda (Leonard) Neff, Donna (David) Mills and Kristie (Tim) Fleetwood, all of Bedford; one son, Russell Mallatt, also of Bedford; four grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Stultz, Bedford, Shannon (Tom) Graves, Springville, Jenni Beyers, Bedford and Michael Neff, Bedford; one step-granddaughter, Brandi (Toby) Webb, Bedford; five great grandchildren, Colby, Halle, Bryson, Brayden and Kendall; two step-great grandchildren, Brittani and Traven; one sister, Mary Catherine Martin, Bedford; one nephew, Duane (Cindy) Martin; two nieces, Janice (Mike) Cain and Ann Thomson; and, several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Nadine Buchholz; one granddaughter, Kara Neff; and one niece, Vicki Martin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Acme Cemetery, Jackson County.
Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, and from noon until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
