Erna Sophia Anna Emme Tape, 101, formerly of the Wegan community, resident of Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, died at 5:47 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
She was born Jan. 28, 1911 in Jackson County to the late Edward Emme and Helena Tormoehlen Emme. On Jan. 15, 1933 she married Edward Tape, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1995.
Mrs. Tape was a member St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan. She was homemaker and a member of Wegan Ladies Aid and Sewing Circle. She was a Farm Bureau township and county women's leader, pet and hobby leader, and was a 4-H leader for Jackson County for 61 years. Mrs. Tape received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award at Purdue for 50 years of 4-H service in 1983. She was a charter member of the Wegan Wide Awake Home Extension Club organized in Feb. 1924.
Survivors include two daughters, Velma Nierman of Brownstown, and Elberta (Roy) Darlage of Vallonia; 11 grandchildren, Randy (Melissa) Nierman of Brownstown, Brad (Christie) Nierman of Brownstown, Sue (Bill) Shoemaker of Vallonia, Debbie (Mike) Woods of Brownstown, Rhonda (Jack) Terrell of Vallonia, Stan (Emily) Darlage of Vallonia, Mark (Judy) Tape of Vallonia, Brian (Amy) Tape of Brownstown, Steve (Beth) Doyle of Seymour, Larry (Jenny) Doyle of Seymour, and Roger (Sally) Doyle; 24 great-grandchildren, Derik, Jared, and Jacob Nierman, Chris, Jalen, and Macy Nierman, Ryan and Drew Shoemaker, Colin Woods, Ashley Chapman, Trista Hart, Dane and Carson Darlage, Clinton and Lance Tape, Conner and Carter Tape, Chris, Greg, Matthew, and Rachel Doyle, Scott, Eric, and Kristie Doyle; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by son, Harlen Tape; daughter, Delores (Tape) Melton; granddaughter, Lori Kay Darlage; son-in-law, Wayne Nierman; and sister, Frieda Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Rev. Martin Keller officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Wegan.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Zabel Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. Monday until time of service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Central School, or donor's choice.
