Mrs. Gertrude Rucker, 96, of Seymour, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at Covered Bridge Health Campus with her family surrounding her.
Born August 14, 1917, in Medora, she was the daughter of Logan and Lillie Lee (Dryden) Motsinger.
On February 15, 1941 in Medora, she married her college sweetheart Paul D. Rucker who preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2012. They were married for 71 years.
Gertrude was a longtime member of Central Christian Church. She spent her life educating young people, retiring after 25 years as an elementary school teacher in Jackson County, mostly in Medora.
Gertrude was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, NEA, and the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Gertrude enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling (to 49 states), playing piano, sewing quilts, baking pies, working on puzzles, and winning euchre games.
But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving Christian wife and mother, a smiling and optimistic grandmother, a dedicated teacher, and an excellent listener in a family of talkers.
She is survived by her children: John Arthur (Carol) Rucker, James Logan (Patti) Rucker, and Mary Lee (Mike) Sentz. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kristen Danielle Robinson, Suzanne Elise (Mike) Wilson, Brian Michael Sentz, and Kyle Andrew Sentz; five great grandchildren: Baylee Robinson, Carlee Robinson, Cory Robinson Jr., Cody Wilson, and Shelby Wilson; three step grandchildren: Lauren Pontrich, Paige Pontrich, and Tricia Pontrich; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter Janet Fae Rucker, grandson Ian Michael Rucker; and sisters Ruby Martin, Irene Hughes, and Ruth (Brown Altemyer) Hill.
