Jack D. Crider, 80, Houston, Ind., passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
He was born June 2, 1932 in Jackson County, the son of Scott and Myrtle Eileen (Brown) Crider.
Mr. Crider worked in Indianapolis for Advance Electrotype as an electrotyper for 13 years. He lived in Indianapolis from 1950-1963. He had been a contractor since 1969 and was owner of Crider Construction Company. He built the lake and the cottages at Berry Branch Cottages in Houston, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, the former Thelma L. Fleenor; their children: Greg Crider, Cathy (Grant) Schneider and Candace Beard; grandchildren: Mitchell Crider, Kelly Schneider (Matthew) Snawder, Jill Schneider (Andrew) Glover, Clayton (Kayla) Beard and Jackson Schneider and great grandchildren: Madison Grace Snawder and Alexa Faith Snawder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Crider; a sister, Phyllis Porch; and a great-granddaughter, Lily Katherine Hope Snawder.
Mr. Crider was well-known in Jackson and Bartholomew counties. He served 35 years as a board member for the Jackson County Water Company. He enjoyed reading and traveling-especially to other countries-and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Houston Christian Church with the Rev. Kenneth Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Houston Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown and after 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be given to the Houston Christian Church or Schneck Foundation, Hospice Fund.
