Leora May Rice, 87, Seymour and formerly of Brownstown, died 1:05 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour.
Mrs. Rice was born April 10, 1926 in Heltonville, Ind., the daughter of Bruce and Pauline Hawkins Hanners. On April 25, 1965, she married James H. Rice at Brownstown Presbyterian Church, and he survives.
She was employed as a secretary at Nierman Law Office and Cummins Engine Co. and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Brownstown Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Brownstown Study Club, Embroiders Guild, and the Gourmet Club. She served as Clerk of Session at Brownstown Presbyterian Church for 22 years.
Survivors include two step-sons, James S. (Dona) Rice, Carmel, and Brian D. (Kellie) Rice, Indialantic, Fla.; one step-daughter, Paula J. (Ronnie) Roberts, Brownstown; one sister, Marcia Robison, Brownstown; six grandchildren: Jami (Derick) Stuckwisch, Erin Solis, Kirby (Justin) Stacks, Spencer Roberts, Aimee (Aaron) Killey and Ethan Rice; two step-grandchildren, Jon (Casey) Wright and Jenny Wright (fiancé David Brown); and five great grandchildren: Jack Stuckwisch, Hank Stuckwisch, Grant Killey, Brielle Killey and Owen Killey.
She was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Marilyn Rice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, with the Revs. Duane Aelick and Brad Napier officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 1 and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Brownstown Presbyterian Church or Southern Care Hospice.
