Russell Ackeret, 69, of Seymour, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 15, 1943 in Seymour, he was the son of Harry G. and Myrtle (Russell) Ackeret, Sr.
On Feb. 14, 1982 in Seymour he married his Valentine, Susan Motsinger.
Russell was a member of New Life Assembly of God. He had been employed with Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1999. Russell was the founding commander of the local chapter of The Royal Ranger's. He was an avid fan of Indiana "Hoosier" basketball. He liked the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his friends and family.
Besides his wife Susan, he is survived by his children David Ackeret, Barbara (David) Wyatt, Debra Ackeret, Justin (Crystal) Ackeret, Jamie Ackeret, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brothers Eddie Ackeret, John Ackeret, Scott (Betsy) Ackeret, sisters Janet (Curtis) Ziegler, Marcia (Byron) Merrick, and Brenda (Ricky) Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry G. "Sonny" Ackeret, Jr., and sister Sharon K. Houser.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Condolences may be sent to the family through Voss Funeral Service and memorials may be written to Our Hospice of Jennings County through Voss Funeral Service, Seymour.
All arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff of Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Tri-County Crematory, Seymour.
