Mrs. Sue Guinn, 69, of Seymour, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
The Guest Book is expired.
Doing things her way began on Nov. 4, 1943 when Sue Guinn decided to hit the world in full force as a preemie. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and could be held in the palm of her father's hand. Her parents Leonard and Betty Pfister ultimately found themselves in Seymour, Ind. by the time she reached high school.
While working at the Colony Chef (a restaurant in Seymour) she met Hubert Guinn Jr. After he left multiple pennies as a tip in the coffee cups for her and she decided that she "liked him way too much," things moved forward and they found themselves married on July 3, 1963. Soon after they had two children, Vicki and Barry.
Sue worked 20 years at Margaret R. Brown Elementary where she loved teachers, students, janitors and cooks all alike. There she impacted and influenced many lives more than she probably ever knew. She would place a single rose in the mailbox of every teacher each year on their birthday. Sue just loved people and therefore touched many lives simply because of who she was.
She was a member of the Surprise United Methodist Church and loved to sing. She led congregational singing for years and sang special music whenever invited. She loved life. She had a warm and contagious smile that would light up any room. Sue always saw the unique beauty of every sunrise and sunset. She saw the individual glory of every fall leaf and gazed in awe at every babbling brook.
The last ten years were full of challenges as she faced the realities of her Alzheimer's. She embraced each moment as an opportunity to possibly love or help someone. She entered the world doing it her way and left it doing it her own special way. After 39 days of no food and 26 days of no liquid, she quietly and peacefully held the hand of Jesus as He walked her into Heaven on Oct. 27, 2013 at 12:20 p.m.
Survivors include her husband Hubert Guinn Jr., her two children Barry (Angie) Guinn and Vicki Guinn, one grandson Chase Guinn and a sister Ninette Basil.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Ison officiating.
Sue will be carried to her final resting place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Acme, Ind., by a horse drawn carriage. There will be a Voss Dove release.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Condolences may be sent to the family through Voss Funeral Service and memorials may be written to Campus Crusade for Christ and Gideons International through Voss Funeral Service, Seymour, Ind.
