Charles E. ""Charlie"" Riehl(1928 - 2013)

CLYDE - Charles E. Riehl, 85, formerly of County Road 185, died on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Elmwood The Inn Beautiful, Green Springs.
"Charlie" was born in Ballville Township, on March 4, 1928. He graduated from Green Springs High School in 1947. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, where he had previously served on Church Council, member of Knights of Columbus. He was a former director of Green Springs Co-Op, member of Sandusky County Farm Bureau and a lifelong supporter of the Clyde FFA.
Mr. Riehl was a farmer all his life and co-owner of the former Riehl Checkerboard Market. In 1997, he was the recipient of the Sandusky County Farmer of the Year Award.
On July 31, 1948, he married Susanne Craig; she preceded him in death on July 5, 2009.
Survivors include children, Donald Riehl, Fremont; Diane (Matthew) Burr, Bellevue; Theresa (Peter) Miller, Kansas; Rita (Ken) Hoffman, Green Springs; Michael (Karen) Riehl, Clyde; Mary Brock, Michigan; Mark (Mary) Riehl, Michigan; Matthew (Becky) Riehl, Green Springs; and Craig (Diane) Riehl, Fremont. Thirty-five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Donna Riehl, Shelby; and sister-in-law, Donna Riehl, Port Clinton, also survive.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Martin and Isabelle (Rollins) Riehl; two sons, John Riehl and David Riehl; two grandchildren; and six siblings, Paul Riehl, Isabelle Wasserman, Carl Riehl, Irene Thielen, Florence Wanstall and Lucille Mohr.
Visitation will be today (Tuesday, July 2) from 4-8 p.m. at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde.
The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Rev. Ted Miller and the Rev. Ed Schleter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clyde.
