BELLEVUE — Melvin "Ned" D. Jennings, age 83, of Bellevue, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky. He was born Dec. 27, 1930 in Roanoke, VA the son of the late Ernest C. and Beulah L. (Beard) Jennings.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran from 1949 – 1952.
Ned joined Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1955 and served as yardmaster. He was transferred to Bellevue in 1968 where he was a trainmaster until his retirement in August 1986.
He was a member of Seybert United Methodist Church, Bellevue Masonic Lodge 273, 32nd Degree Mason, Zenobia Shriners of North America, Tiffin Hornets, Tiffin Shrine Club, Firelands Scottish Rite, Eastern Star Althea Chapter 438, Four County Young at Heart, Bellevue Eagles Aerie 490, Bellevue Elks Lodge 1013.
Ned loved yard work gardening, fishing, hunting and woodworking.
He married Betty Neil Bates in 1953 and was married for 33 years until her death in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Haynes) Jennings, whom he married in 1998, three daughters; Monica Wright, Stephanie Zoss, Tammy Jennings, son; Mark Jennings, sisters Dorothy Ling, Peggy Thompson, sister-in-laws Louise Jennings, Quanita Jennings, four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by sisters; Kathryn Stonebraker, Norma Fisher and two brothers: Harold and Vance Jennings.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial and military honors will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
