BROOKLYN, Mich. - Scott Allyn Plate, age 43, of Ohio, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.
He was born July 1, 1970, in Adrian, Mich., to Richard William "Bill" Plate and Susan Jane (Ostrander) Plate.
Scott was a graduate of Columbia Central High School in 1989 and then recruited to play football with the University of Iowa where he received his bachelor degree. During his college football career at Iowa, Scott received All Big Ten Honors, playing in the Rose, Holiday and Alamo Bowls and continued on to the CFL. He was formerly employed in sales with Russel Stanley and had coached football at Jackson Lumen Christi and Bellevue High School.
He is survived by his parents, Bill (Peggy) Plate and Susan Plate; children,Wyatt, Whitney, and Walker Plate; siblings, Todd (Heidi) Plate, Rick (Jill) Plate and Emily (Brad) Davis; five nephews, four nieces; one great-niece; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his ex-wife, Katie Jiles.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norma and Bill Plate, and Robert and Ruth Ostrander.
In Scott's honor, memorial donations may be shared with the family for his children's future.
Scott's simple Farewell Gathering will be on Friday, Aug. 30, at the Borek-Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, 137 S. Main St., Brooklyn, Mich. 49230, beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Drew Woods officiating.
