Norris George "Nory" Latteman, age 90, of Wakeman, died on Friday January 17, 2014 at Kingston of Vermilion following a brief illness. He was born on October 17, 1923 in Wakeman and lived in the Birmingham area his entire life. He was a 1941 graduate of Birmingham High School. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a Tech Sgt. and engineer on the USS General John Pope.
He was a self-employed master carpenter for many years, building many homes in the Vermilion and local area. He was an active member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church. Nory was in charge of the bakery for the annual Harvest Festival, and completed many renovation projects for the church. He was an active member of the Firelands High School Athletic Boosters, selling programs and 50/50 tickets for 41 years without missing a game. He enjoyed farming and gardening. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years Phyllis (Hoffman), his children Sharon (Jim) Queen, of Canfield, OH, Gary (Linda) Latteman, of Norwalk, two granddaughters Allison Queen and Holly Latteman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore G. and Bertha N. (Nason) Latteman, and his siblings, Harold "Pete" Latteman, Dorothy Dennison, Kathryn Krysik, Ruth Sekerak, and Mary Jane Hase-Smith.
Friends may call on Tuesday January 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Pastor Dick Kretchmar will be officiating. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery.
