MERIDEN - Eva Mary Douglas, 86, of Meriden, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. She resided at the St. Elizabeth Center of the Curtis Home in Meriden. Eva was born in Cheshire, Conn., on April 9, 1928, to the late Frank and Eva (VanPelt) Roberts. Eva's mother passed away during childbirth, after which she was raised by her loving uncle and aunt, the late Erik and Laura Erikson.

After high school, Eva worked in the business office at the American Brass Co. in Waterbury, Conn. She then resided in Meriden for many years and retired from the Meriden YMCA in 1991, after 17 years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Meriden. After retiring, she moved to Southington to live with her son, where she was a member of the Southington Calendar House. Eva held a special love for animals and enjoyed spending time outdoors. She also loved to dance and listen to music. She will always be remembered for her kind nature and being willing to help anyone in need. She has left us with many cherished memories and will be in our hearts forever.
Eva is survived by her sons, Robert Douglas and Richard Douglas, of California; Paul Douglas, of Southington; and her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Douglas and Steve Norkiewicz, of Meriden; her grandchildren, Patrick, Richard, Robert, and Daniel; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Eva also leaves two brothers, Frank Roberts and Victor Roberts. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Marinko; and her former husband, Robert Douglas.
Eva's family would like to especially thank the staff at the Curtis Home for their loving care and compassion. She loved each and every person there.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, at 10:30 a.m., at Hubbard Chapel at Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Road, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the chapel. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eva's memory may be sent to the Curtis Home, 380 Crown St., Meriden, CT 06450.
