MERIDEN - Samuel Rietze, Jr., 86, husband of Virginia Stevens Rietze, died on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at home after a brief illness.

He was born in Meriden on July 16, 1926, the son of the late Samuel and Elvira (Calmangelo) Rietze, Sr. He had resided in Meriden all his life and had graduated from Meriden schools. Mr. Rietze was employed by the City of Meriden Housing Authority and was a longtime bartender at Verdolinis. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathyrn and her husband, Vittorio Amenta; one son, Thomas Rietze and Lori Fincher, all of Meriden; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters; and two brothers.

The funeral will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
