Lucille Marie McPherson died April 30 at the age of 94. She was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Erie, to Sarah and Fritz Hefftner.
She grew up in Erie and spent her summers in Pitkin. She graduated from Erie High School in 1941 and married Donald McPherson Aug. 20, 1941, in Kimball, Nebraska. They met at a jitney dance in Longmont and were still dancing in their 80s at the Elks Club in Brighton.
Lucille and Donald began married life in Fort Lupton, where they built a home and raised two daughters. They were married 69 years before Donald's death in 2010.
Lucille worked summers at the Fort Lupton Canning Co. in quality control for nearly 50 years. She loved to sew and made clothes for her daughters. She played bridge and was active in American Legion Auxiliary. She was an excellent flyfisherwoman and loved to fish Quartz Creek in the Pitkin Valley.
Survivors are her daughters, Diane Asbury (Ken) and Cirri Sirko; four grandchildren, Jon Asbury (Katie), Jarrett Sirko (Jayme), Clint Sirko (Nikki) and Kelly Sirko; and eight great-grandchildren: Anne Asbury, Addie Asbury, Alivia Gholston, Amelia Sirko, Porter Sirko, Weston Sirko, Takota Sirko, and Chayton Sirko.
