Ret. Col. Herman "Hank" Conrad Ahrens Jr., 89, of North Little Rock, Ark., died Friday, July 11, 2014.
Hank was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Shovel Mountain, Texas, to the late Herman Conrad Ahrens Sr. and Elsa (Broadbeck) Ahrens.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Conrad Ahrens; and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Baker.
Hank retired as a Colonel after serving 31 years in the U.S. Air Force. He served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a graduate of the University of Texas. After retirement, he returned to the family ranch.
He is survived by wife, Louise (Averill) Ahrens of North Little Rock; daughter, Madelyn Ahrens of Kingsville, Texas; niece, Erin Stallard of Jacksonville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral service with full military honors will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave., North Little Rock.
