Douglas Alan Burton Sr., 58, of Conway, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was born on October 2, 1954 in St. Charles, Louisiana to Burl & Bettye Lou Burton. After many years of battling various health issues, he succumbed to complications from liver cancer.

Doug was of Lutheran faith and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served overseas in Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Denise, his sons, David Burton & Douglas Alan Burton Jr., his daughter, Leigh Anne Shapard, his father, Burl Burton (Virginia), and the absolute joys of his life, his grandchildren, Matthew Alan Shapard & Charlie Kate Burton.

He is predeceased by his mother, Bettye Lou Burton.

After years of traveling around the world, he settled in Conway, Arkansas where he has lived for the past 30 years. He was actively involved in his children's activities, coaching several T-Ball, softball & soccer teams over the years.

Doug attended Beebe High School & the University of Central Arkansas, where he excelled in all things writing related. He was a talented musician and avid Razorback fan. He spent many an afternoon on his front porch strumming his guitar, drinking sweet tea and cheering on the Hogs.

Visitation with the family will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Advent Lutheran Church in Conway. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to The Bethlehem House or the Faulkner County Humane Society.
