George W. "Dub" Mitchell, Jr. of Toad Suck, formerly of Conway. Mr. Mitchell was born May 19, 1933, at Enola, Ark., and passed away on his birthday 80 years later, May 19, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann Mitchell of Conway. Two daughters, Tami Mitchell-Davis of Conway; and Tonya Mitchell Moix and husband Kevin, of Toad Suck. Four grandsons that were the center of his world, Mitchell Garrett Moix and Kevin Sawyer Moix of Toad Suck; Ethan Charles Davis and Mitchell Ty Davis, of Conway.
Mr. Mitchell was the son of George W. Mitchell, Sr. and Cenia Viola Robinson Mitchell of Enola. He was the last living child of their nine children: three brothers - Glenn Mitchell of Washington; Lester Mitchell of Kennett, Mo.; and Faye Mitchell of Maricopa, Calif.; five sisters – Effie and Ray Mitchell, Tince Taylor, all of Conway; Minnie Smith and Hazel Thurman of Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mitchell was raised in Enola, Ark., and was drafted at the age of eighteen for the Korean War, stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1963. He was an accountant for the State of Arkansas for over 30 years. He served many years on the Board of Directors for Arkansas Federal Credit Union and served several terms as president of the board. He was also a member of the Arkansas Association of Government Accountants.
Mr. Mitchell was an avid golfer. He lost his hand in an accident but that didn't stop him from doing what he loved. He designed a prosthetic device which locked into his golf clubs to give him better control of his swing. As he travelled the state playing golf, people were amazed at his ability to play so well. Mr. Mitchell never wanted to be viewed as handicapped and worked hard to overcome any physical obstacles that existed.
A rosary will be said at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 22, at 6 p.m., and the visitation will follow from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Brown Cemetery in Enola, with Kevin, Garrett, and Sawyer Moix; Ethan and Mitchell Davis; and Rusty Mosley, of O'Fallon, Mo., serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Mitchell would prefer donations be made to Little Rock Catholic High School, Capital Campaign for Boys or Arkansas Hospice.
