Robert Joseph Simon, 86, of Conway, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Conway, Ark., to the late Joseph George and Anna Bruich Simon.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie Herring Simon; and grandson, Robert Jeremy Simon.
Bob was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph Catholic School. He was a WW II Army Veteran where he served in the Philippines. After being discharged he returned to his father's grocery store where he met his future wife Bonnie. In 1948 Bob began sixty plus years in ice cream sales with Swift & Co. and Coleman Dairy working with customers that he knew and loved. He was known as "the ice cream man" serving as booth chairman at St. Joseph School Bazaar for many years, as well as the Faulkner County Fair. Nothing made Papaw happier than spending time with his many grandchildren. No Family gathering was complete without fixins for root beer and Coke floats that Bob enjoyed making.
He is survived by his children, Pat Velek (Bill), Rick Simon (Karen), Pam Jackson (Melvin) and Joe Simon (Diana); one brother, Ray Simon (Phyllis); grandchildren, Bill Velek (Kristi), Steven Velek (Nicole), Michael Velek, Kathleen Lawson (Brian), David Velek, Jimmy Velek, Christin Townsley (Shelby), Matthew Velek, Kenny Simon (Rebecca), Jeremy Simon, Jacob Simon (Erica), Courtney Simon, Noah Simon, Gabriel Simon, Isabella Simon, Daniel Jackson (Becky), Aaron Jackson (Rebecca), and Lindsey Thompson (Jarred); and twenty great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father John Marconi serving as Celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Friday, with Rosary following at 7 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway, 501-327-7727.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
