Jack Carrithers, 92, of Conway, passed away on Feb. 26, 2014, after a long and happy life. He was born Aug. 22, 1921 in Joplin, Mo., to the late Jesse and Nell Carrithers.
He was a faithful member of the Conway First United Methodist Church and a World War II Veteran, serving in Europe. Jack spent a successful career as an insurance adjuster, both in Springfield, Mo., and across the nation assisting communities after major storms. He was well-known for his kindness, fairness and work ethic.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Doris; two children, Pat Carrithers and his wife, Deborah, of Indianapolis, and Peggy Carrithers Weatherly and her husband, Allen, of Conway; three grandchildren, Lauren Geier and her husband, Trey, of Conway, David Weatherly of Little Rock and Tess Carrithers of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Jack Geier. He was a much-beloved member of a large extended family as well.
Jack was well-known for his love of sports as a regular patron of the Missouri State Bears and Drury Panthers while living in Missouri and, after retirement, the University of Central Arkansas Bears. He and Doris were well-known fixtures at nearly every home game of just about any sport. In recent years, he was particularly close to the UCA Sugar Bears volleyball program.
He continued his active volunteer service once he relocated to Conway, including service at Conway Regional Medical Center and First United Methodist Church, to cite just two of many examples.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m., March 3, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Conway, with Dr. Michael Roberts officiating.
Interment will precede the service at the Columbarium at the church.
Visitation will follow after the service.
