Billy F. Gooden, 81, of Russellville, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Greenbriar Nursing and Rehab Center. The son of Homer and Dortha Pauline Glover Gooden, he was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Damascus. He was a 1949 graduate of Southside High School in Damascus. He attended Arkansas Tech University and received a B.S. from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1954.
He and Melba Glaydene Point were married on Oct. 20, 1956, in Washington D.C. He served in the United States Army Reserves. Bill's career in animal health spanned over 30 years. He was a sales representative with E.R. Squibb and Son and Solvay Animal Health, retiring in 1995.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting and his annual elk hunt in Colorado. He was a member of the N.R.A. and the Elk foundation. A founding member of the West Side Church of Christ, he served as a deacon, an elder and Bible class teacher.
He and Mary Lee Brenner were married in 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Melba Glaydene Gooden; daughter, Rebecca Gooden; and a granddaughter, Laurie Anne Kendrick.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Linda Criswell and husband Craig, of Knoxville; son, Rodney Gooden and wife Wanda of Searcy; grandchildren, Josh Criswell of Knoxville, John David, Jenny and Caroline Gooden, all of Searcy; brother, Harold Gooden, of Springdale; sister, Francis Edwards, of Damascus; stepdaughter, Kathryn Young; and other extended family.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Humphrey Chapel. Mr. Dan Lightfoot will officiate. Burial will be at Spires Cemetery in Damascus, by Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Camp Caudle.
