Alfred (Pete) Owen Day, SMSGT, USAF RET. passed away July 1,2013 In San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Conway, Ark., on September 26, 1933 to the late, Rev. Thomas Walter and Edith Ila West Day. He Graduated from Conway High School in 1953 and earned his BA Degree in Business from SWTSU.

In 1954 Pete enlisted in the Air Force proudly dedicating 21 years active duty. His basic training was at Lackland AFB, Technical training at Francis E. Warren AFB. His first duty assignment was Iwo Jima to support the Air Force Flying Missions in the Pacific. Other duty assignments with the USAF Security Service and NSA SIGINT projects were in Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, Goodfellow, Forbes , Nellis, Andersen (Guam).

While serving at Misawa, Pete earned Outstanding Supply Achievement Award and Meritorious Service Medal. At Andersen AFB Pete was awarded the Joint Service commendation Medal. While Serving at Randolph AFB, he was awarded his third Meritorious Service Medal Award. In addition, Pete received numerous Air Force Supply support Achievement and Air Force commendations Medal before retiring at Randolph AFB in 1977.

In 1981 Pete started his Civil Service career. After six months, Pete was selected as the management and Procedures Officer for the AFSCS Satellite supply operation where he received superior performance awards and selected to the Horizon team which was largely responsible for the total AFCSC work centers automation.

After retiring in July 1999, he enjoyed planning family vacations and annual Christmas parties to include: 5 trips to Hawaii, 2 cruises, Branson, Hot Springs Lake resort, and last minute trips to his Condo at the beach.

He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Wilson, Waldorf, Mary., Tamara Wakefield, Corpus Christi, Texas, Alfreda Keuten, New Braunfels, Texas. And Joley Day-Mayfield, Pipe Creek, Texas; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; Two Sisters, Vida M. Day, Little Rock, Ark., Margaret Feathers, Jacksonville, Ark.; Uncle ,Bill West, Conway, Ark.; cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss him.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 9th, from 7-9 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home. Services to celebrate his life will be on Wednesday, July 10, at 9 a.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Ft Sam Houston Memorial Cemetery with military honors to be rendered.
