Virginia Emma Pura

Virginia Emma Pura, 85, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully at home. Virginia was born, Virginia Emma Demichelis on July 2, 1927 in Hollister, to Guglielmo and Mary Demichelis. She was the 2nd of five children. She grew up on the family's dairy farm south of Gilroy and was a graduate of Gilroy High School.
Virginia worked for the phone company as a switchboard operator in San Jose. While attending a Swiss Picnic in Modesto with her sister, she met Eldon Pura. She and Eldon began dating and they married January 21, 1951. Eldon being from Greenfield moved his newly wedded bride to live on the family farm just east of Greenfield on Elm Ave. Here they raised two children, Jeremy and Heidi. They have lived in Greenfield ever since. She was employed by Basic Vegetable Products and worked in Quality Control. She retired after 35 years. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Virginia enjoyed working in her Rose Garden, doing floral arrangements and volunteered many years for the Salinas Valley Fair in the Floral Building. She was a past member of the Silver Kings and Queens. She and Eldon enjoyed taking trips with the group and traveling. She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan. Virginia had a profound love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed supporting them throughout their scholastic and athletic endeavors.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Eldon Pura of Greenfield; children, Jeremy Pura (Lynn) of Salinas, Heidi Lustenberger (Dale) of Belmont; grandchildren, Megan Porteous (Tyler) of Carlsbad, Melissa Pura of Encinitas, Caitlyn Pura of Stanford, Donald Lustenberger of McKee Rocks, PA, Kenneth Lustenberger of Belmont, Katarina Lustenberger of Los Angeles; sisters, Catherine Intravia and Annabelle Conconi; and brother, William Demichelis. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marie Skov.
Private services will be held at a later date.
