Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Joe was born Feb. 1, 1932 in Monterey and grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, graduating from Monterey High. After high school, Joe spent two years in the U.S. Army. He worked at J&M Hardware in Salinas for many years before moving over to Hayward Lumber. In between, he was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed taking the scouts on camping trips to Big Sur. He served four years as president of the Athletic Council. He could often be seen at any event in the Salinas area working the Palma food trailer. In 1979, he started the Palma Golf Tournament. Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia; three kids, Thomas of Valley Springs, Richard of Edgewater, CO, and Lori Ann Grondin of West Sacramento; four grandchildren, Andrew of Valley Springs, Jessica of Valley Springs, Kelsi Waters of Sacramento and Chris Grondin of West Sacramento, and numerous nieces and nephews.
