Simms, Edward Lee  
Edward Lee Simms January 29, 1927 - May 17, 2015 Salinas Edward Lee Simms, 88, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015. He was born Jan. 29, 1927 in Wildwood, NJ, to Helen Maude Wilson Simms and Wilfred Oscar Simms. He spent part of his childhood in Wildwood and then the family moved to Philadelphia, PA where he was raised. He attended Benjamin Franklin High School for Boys. Edward spent 11 years active duty in the Navy followed by the Army. After his Military service, he was a civil servant administrative assistant for the VA Hospital Administration. He loved playing the lottery and daily number, fishing, Sunday school and Church every Sunday, rummage sales at the Church twice a year, and the Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. He was a member of Lincoln Ave. Presbyterian Church and Alliance on Aging. Edward is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Takako Enomoto Simms; children, Jacqueline Ediko Melvin and Linda Marie Stubblefield; grandchildren, David Edward Melvin of Colorado Springs, CO, Lindsay Elise Stubblefield of Santa Cruz, and Shannon Ashley Stubblefield of Salinas. He is also survived by six of his 13 siblings in the Delaware Valley location, Crawford Eugene Simms "Reds", Daisy Beatrice Simms "Rubsy", Wilfred Oscar Simms Jr. "Ockey", Adele Yvonne Simms "Bonnie", Merritt Hall Simms "Mickey/Rashid" and Janet Elaine Simms, along with his two close cousins, Geraldine Talley and Jessie Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents and remaining siblings, Charles E. Wilson "Uncle Ed", James Albert Simms "Troy, Helen Marie Simms "Sister", Mary Elizabeth Simms "Joy", William Alfred Simms "Billy", Andrea Jeannette Simms, and Marjorie Cecelia Simms "Margie". A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at which time his Funeral service will begin including Military Honors. Services will be at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel at Mission Memorial Park, 1915 Ord Grove Ave. in Seaside. In lieu of flowers, Edward and Takako request donations be made to Lincoln Presbyterian Church in Salinas and The Alliance on Aging.

Anastacio (Tacho) Gregorio Soto December 23, 1975 - May 6, 2015 Tyler, TX Anastacio (Tacho) Gregorio Soto, 39, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in Tyler, TX. Tacho was born Dec. 23, 1975 in Dinuba, to Berta Brown and Abel Soto. Tacho was raised in Salinas, where he spent his early years. He always considered Salinas to be his "home" and where his heart would remain. Tacho was a devoted father, beloved son, and loving brother. Everyone knew Tacho as a loyal and "Hardcore" dedicated 49er fan. His favorite past time was singing Karaoke and playing pranks on family and friends. Tacho is survived by his children, Anastacio Gregorio Soto Jr., Gabriel Marcus Soto, and Leilani Ariana Soto; his parents, Abel Soto and Berta Brown; siblings, Abel Soto Jr., and Rachel Soto Carrasco (Eric); nephews, Christian Salcido, Abel Antonio Soto, Eric Carrasco Jr., Julian Mercado, and Josh Mercado; nieces, Larissa Marie Soto, Raquelle Ana Soto-Montoya, Florentina Marie Din, Isabella Anastacia Din; maternal grandparents, Anastacio and Maria Isabel Caldera; and numerous extended family members. Tacho was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Juanita Herrera and Gregorio Soto Jr.; and uncles, Gregorio Soto III, George and Herman Soto. Memorial services will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel, 127 E. Caldwell Ave., Visalia; Officiating Pastor will be Frank Requejo. Following the memorial service, a Celebration of Life reception will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at The Island Hall in Dinuba.

Scurich, Stella  
Stella Scurich November 27, 1921 - May 21, 2015 Watsonville Stella Scurich passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 after a brief illness, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Plymouth, to Lucy and Louis Bokariza who immigrated to America from Croatia, then part of the Dalmatia, Austria. She was a resident of Watsonville for more than 65 years, graduating from Watsonville High School and Salinas Junior College. Upon her graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at the new hospital on Montecito Street. After her marriage to Louis Scurich in 1947, they made their home in Watsonville, Tucson, AZ and the Imperial Valley where he served as vice president of harvesting for Bud of California. Upon his retirement they traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Holy Land as well as many trips to Croatia. Stella was a member of St. Patrick's Church and St. Patrick's Alter Society. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling. Stella's apple and pumpkin pies were widely acknowledged as "the best" and coveted additions to family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Louis; her parents; brothers, Louis and Peter Bokariza, and her sisters, Mary Staka and Pauline Basor. Stella is survived by her loving family; son, Michael, his wife Jane, and her grandson, Scott, of Mill Valley. Stella also leaves her sister Lucy, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at St. Patricks Church , with a burial to follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery. The family wishes to thank her devoted caretakers, Bonnie Palahang, June Juban and Hospice of Santa Cruz County for their support and dedication. In lieu of flowers, Stella has suggested donations to either Casa Allegra Community Services, 35 Mitchell Blvd. Suite 8, San Rafael, CA 94903-2012 or Moreland Notre Dame High School, 133 Brennan St., Watsonville, CA 95076. Arrangements: Mehl's Colonial Chapel, Watsonville.
