Cortez-Melchor
Jose Carmen Cortez-Melchor, 65, of Salinas, was granted his angel wings on Friday, April 1, 2011, at his home with his family that he loved so much.
He was born July 16, 1945 in San Luis Potosi, MX. Jose worked as a tractor driver for many years to later discover that his passion was in mechanics. He enjoyed working on cars, going to yard sales, gardening around his home, going to casinos, but his absolute favorite pastime was time spent with his beloved wife who he spent every minute of the day with. The Godfather, as many in his community knew him, was a man of his word with the biggest heart and was always willing to give a helping hand to those who were in need. Jose also had a love for wild mustang horses. He would train them in Nevada and give them a new home.
He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Aurelia Melchor; daughter, Micaela (Octavio) Melchor-Bautista, son, Jose Melchor; brothers, Angel, and Thomas; sister, Maria, Erlinda and Nicholasa; seven grandchildren, Jose Melchor, Johnny Godinez, Anthony Melchor, Jeanette Melchor, Stephen Godinez, Victoria Godinez, and Diego Bautista; seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Melchor, Alina Godinez, Nevaeha Melchor, Anthony A. Melchor, Krista Godinez, Stephen Godinez Jr., and Johnny E. Godinez and his German Shepherd dog, Lobo.
We will miss you deeply.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Funeral Mass will take place Friday, April 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church 22 Stone St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA.
Arrangements by Struve and Laporte Chapel.

I have many great memories of Jose. There were two things we had in common, one was the love for animals and the other was the passion for gardening. I was very fortunate to have known him and I know I will miss him as much as his wife and family.
