Elena Louise Bass(1915 - 2014)

Elena Louise Bass

Elena Louise Bass, 98, of Salinas, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, after a long and happy life. She was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Italy.

She was a wonderful, loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Her love was for her family but her greatest joy was being a mother. She will always be remembered for putting her loved ones before herself.

She loved her pets as part of the family. She had a passion for cooking and everything she made was the best, just like everything she did. You could often find her "puttering around in the garden" as she really enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers. She also loved music, which she shared with her granddaughter often. She liked playing tennis and golf and really liked horses and enjoyed watching the horse parades and races. She had a sweet tooth, which she passed on to her family, and could never say no to a cup of hot cocoa with whip cream.

She attended local elementary schools and a Catholic business school.

She was a Legal Secretary and also had a bookkeeping and tax preparation business. She retired at age 75.

She was predeceased in death by husband, James Willard Bass; her parents, Giuseppe and Pierina Futini; her sister, Mary Boekenoogen; her uncles, Paul Futini and John Futini and her aunt, Sandrina Gianotti.

She is survived by her son, Richard J. Bass; brother, John J. Futini (Melba); grandaughter, Bridgette Bass van der Veen; sister, Antonia Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., at Gonzales District Cemetery, 1000 Highway 101 S, Gonzales, CA 93926.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Katherine Healthcare for all their kindness and compassion.
