Irene Roqueni Olea
Irene Roqueni Olea, 85, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, from long-fought battle and complications from sepsis. Irene was born October 20, 1927, in Pirtleville, AZ.
After attending school, she worked for Kress and JCPenney in Douglas, AZ. She married Rafael Juan Olea from Douglas and they had three children; son, Ralph Jr.; daughter, Anna, and son, David.
Ralph and Irene moved from Douglas in 1954 to Torrance. In the early 1960's, Irene and Rafael moved to Salinas to be near Rafael's identical twin brother Oscar Olea and his family. Irene was a full-time homemaker for many years before returning to JCPenney's after her children completed elementary school. She worked in the shoe department for JCPenney's in Salinas for 19 years before retiring. Irene and Rafael were married for 60 years at the time of his death in June 2009. Irene was well known for her beautiful crochet work, both with thread and yarn. She enjoyed her weekly meetings with friends at Over the Rainbow Club and at Angela's Angels, both groups meeting at Madonna Del Sasso Church.
She was born to Eugenia and Elias Roqueni and was the last child of the family; joining her sister, Carmen and four brothers, Tomas, Elias, Francisco and Claudio Roqueni, all of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by their children, Ralph to Bettye Raposa, Anna to Bob Moger, and David to Cindy Hogue. Irene and Ralph enjoyed grandchildren, Morgan and Erik Olea, Jaime (Raposa) Cuevas; and step-great-grandchildren, Marina Moger, A.J., Destiny, Demitrius, Jonathan and Yolanda Martinez-Cuevas with two great-great-grandchildren, Jazlyn and Lillyanah Cuevas.
Memorial Mass and services will be held Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11 a.m., at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 East Laurel Drive in Salinas and Celebration of Life services will follow at the *home of David and Cindy Olea (*directions provided at the memorial service).
