Jean E. Sandridge
Jean E. Sandridge passed away at her home Monday, October 8, 2012 at the age of 74, following a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and close friends. Jean was born March 1, 1938, to James Christopher McCormick Jr., and Vivian Blanche Eakin McCormick in Uniontown, PA.
Along with her former husband, Robert Sandridge, Jean was the mother of seven children, including Sharon Moreno of Sun Valley, NV; Craig Sandridge of Prunedale; Valarie Fleck of Reno, NV; Barry Sandridge of North Chesterfield, VA; Janice Murphy of Greenfield; and Roy Sandridge of San Diego.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Jean Logsdon of Sacramento and her long time companion, Tom (Tommy) Luna of Salinas. She also leaves behind two brothers, James (Jim) McCormick of Pasadena, MD; and John (Jack) McCormick of Glen Burnie, MD; 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, and many friends and loved ones.
As a 50 year resident of Salinas, Jean worked in the service industry as a waitress, cook, bar tender, and restaurant manager at The Lettuce Inn, Golden West Restaurants, The Night Owl, and The American Legion. She held a place in her heart for the SPCA where she adopted her dog Maxie, and she generously contributed to the cause of the prevention of cruelty to animals. She also had a passion for cooking and enjoyed teaching her cooking secrets to others. She especially enjoyed hosting BBQs and dinner parties. Her big feasts with family and friends will be greatly missed.
As the matriarch of her family, Jean will be deeply missed by the many people that loved her, and she will be remembered as opinionated, stubborn, sometimes sarcastic, but always a good and loving mother, and friend.
