Joe Manuel Olvera
Joe Manuel Olvera, 72, longtime resident of Salinas, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012, in Salinas. He was born December 11, 1939, in Santa Paula, CA.
Joe proudly served in the U.S. National Guard prior to his career at Firestone Tires in Salinas and as a Correctional Officer at CTF-Soledad for more than 20 years. Joe loved to garden, both at home and at CTF, where he earned an award in horticulture. He also had a passion for raising farm animals.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Olvera; daughters, Cindy (Greg) Salazar and Terrie (Manuel) Meza; sons, Joe Olvera, Jr., Jon Olvera and Steve Olvera; grandchildren, Liana, Arielle, Danielle, Joseph, Sara, Jona, Brianna, and Alex; great-grandchildren, George, Joseph, Jr., Roxanne, Ethan; sisters, Jane Salinas, Pat Benitez, Genevieve Granillo, Virgie Fragoso, and Lupe Acosta; and his nephew, whom he considered as a brother, Richard Garcia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dolores Perez and Alice Rojas.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 1 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary recital at 7 p.m., all at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905.
A Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 10 a.m., at Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr., Salinas, CA 93906.
Burial with Military Honors will follow Mass at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
