Maria Santana Cadena, 70, a longtime resident of Salinas, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Rioverde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She was born on July 26, 1943, in Tecomates Municipio de Rioverde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Santana was a dedicated member of St. Mary's of the Nativity Catholic Church. She was a member of the church choir for more than 30 years, and active in various Catholic Charismatic prayer groups and activities. Her life was a living example of her faith in God and the world is a better place because of her kind spirit. Santana cared for her friends and family through her cooking and love for making desserts.
Santana is survived by her sister, Donaciana Cadena de Grimaldo of Mexico; her brother, Benancio Cadena of Waxahachie, TX; her sister, Maria Francisca Espinoza of Salinas; her brother, Jose Teodolfo Cadena of Salinas; and a close extended family of numerous nieces and nephews from Calif., Texas and Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buenaventura Cadena and Felicitas Guevara de Cadena; and her siblings, Francisca Cadena, Esteban Cadena, Geronimo Cadena, Francisca Gonzalez, Constantino Cadena, Camila Cadena de Martinez, and Norberto Cadena.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 1 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 1 to 5 p.m., all at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA 93905.
A Rosary Vigil will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 7 p.m., at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 424 Towt St., Salinas, CA 93905.
A Funeral Mass will take place Thursday, August 8, 2013, at St. Mary of the Nativity Church.
Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
