Marie Alice Barnhill
Marie Alice Barnhill, 90, passed away of natural causes and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2013 She was born October 18, 1922, in Columbia, S.D., where she was raised.
Marie had lived in Salinas since 1946 and was married to Bill Barnhill for 61 years. He preceded her in death in 2010. Her son, Kent Barnhill, also preceded her in death in 2004.
As part of America's "Greatest Generation", Marie worked at the Surgeon General's office in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She also worked at Monterey County Bank, Department of Agriculture S.C.S. and for Major Farms, Inc., retiring in 1986.
She was a founding member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, music librarian, played in the church handbell choir, sang in the Chancel choir and also the Senior Singers. She was a member of the Salinas Athletic Club, danced with the Lariat Swingers folk dance club, Women's Golf club and was a coast for First Tee.
She has two children, Jackie (Lloyd) Gash and Kent (Angie) Barnhill; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Peterson of Woodinville, WA; and nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Katherine Healthcare for taking such good care of her the last few weeks.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 315 E. Alvin Dr., Salinas.
