Robert Daniel Gutierrez
Robert Daniel Gutierrez, 66, went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He passed away at the Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula in the presence of his wife, Karen and his brother, Rick.
Bob was born May 27, 1946, in Salinas and lived his early life in Spreckels. In 1964, he graduated from Palma High School in Salinas where he was a popular student and a star football player. He also attended Hartnell College in Salinas. Shortly after that, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps
where he served as a sergeant in communications and was honorably discharged.
Following his discharge, he worked as a counselor at the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto. He then transferred to the VA Center Medical Clinic at Fort Ord where he finally retired.
Concerned with helping others, Bob became a staff member at Sun Street Center in Salinas where he labored to help those needing guidance and direction. He gave selflessly of himself.
Bob was a good-hearted, fun-loving man who enjoyed the humorous side of life as evidenced by his love of comedy movies. He was an avid football fan, attending local games with his brother, Rick. He enjoyed animals, especially dogs. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Spreckels and Sacred Heart Church in Salinas.
He will be remembered as a kind soul who was generous, level-headed, warm-hearted and always strove to make those around him comfortable and happy. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael S. Gutierrez, who died in 2001.
He is survived by Karen, his wife of 26 years; his mother, Trine; his brothers, Mike and Rick; his sister, Terry; and nine nieces and nephews.
