Masami Tony Yamaoka

Masami Tony Yamaoka, a native of Watsonville and lifelong resident of San Benito County, died at the age of 84 years on Thursday, August 16, 2012.

A row crop and apple farmer for more than 60 years, Tony was a member of the San Benito County J.A.C.L., San Benito County Howa Kai, the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, Leslie L. Garrett Post, VFW of San Juan Bautista, the American Legion Post of Hollister, and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Tony enjoyed sports and especially the S. F. Giants. "He was a quiet man and a man of few words," said his family.

Surviving Tony is his wife, Ruby Yamaoka of Hollister; his daughter, Joni Yamaguchi (Mark) of Salinas and his son, Craig Yamaoka (Monica) of Hollister; grandchildren, Ryan, Michelle, Julia, Colette, Simone, and Paul; his brothers, Henry Yamaoka (late Helen) and Benny Yamaoka (Carolyn); sister, Ritsuko Kowaki (late Glenn) and nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to a Memorial service on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Grunnagle Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Interment, San Juan District Cemetery.
