Angelina "Angie" Garcia, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, passed into eternal life Friday, October 26, 2012.
Angie, daughter to Juanita and Martin Mendoza, was born in Mexico and arrived with her parents in the United States at the age of five. The family took up residency in Monterey County, finally settling in Soledad for 67 years.
Angie married Rafael Garcia in 1935 and raised three children, Rudy, Richard and Raquel.
Angie worked at various businesses in Soledad, finally retiring after 22 years as a library assistant with the Soledad School District. In between, she found time to teach catechism classes. Angie was well known for her beautiful crochet work. She also enjoyed painting and her extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers - more than 1100 sets, collected over 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael; daughter, Irene and parents, Martin and Juanita Mendoza.
Angie is survived by sons, Rudy (Virginia) of Apple Valley, Richard (Teresa) of Gilroy; daughter, Raquel of Soledad; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Eden Valley Care Center for the care given to our beloved mother. Your care and kindness are appreciated more than words can express.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Solitude Church, 235 Main St., Soledad.
A Reception will follow immediately after the services in the Parish Hall next to the Church.
