Arthur Herbert Gilbert

Arthur Herbert Gilbert, 77, of Tulare, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2013. He was born September 12, 1935, in Summerville, Massachusetts.

Arthur served our country in the Army Air Force as a helicopter mechanic from 1953 to 1956. He received his education at Ottawa University in Kansas. He moved with his family to Salinas in the spring of 1962. Arthur taught at Washington Junior High, Alisal High School where he also coached the boys JV Basketball team, and North Salinas High where he was the girl's JV and Varsity basketball coach for 18 years. He retired from teaching in June of 1999. Arthur was elected to the Salinas Union High School Board and served for eight years. During his teaching years, he officiated basketball, football, softball, and volleyball. Arthur devoted much of his time to teaching, coaching, and mentoring the youth of Salinas.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Delores Gilbert of Tulare; three sons, Dennis and his wife Susan of Folsom, Mike and his wife Sydney of Tulare, and Greg of Salinas; three daughters, Deanna and her husband Mark of Carmel, Melissa and her husband Vincent of West Virginia, VA and Julie and her husband Jim of Ringgold of Georgia; brother Paul and his wife Dorothy of Melrose, MA; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and special friends.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:30 p.m., at Northminster Presbyterian Church, Salinas.
