Dr. David W. Wardlaw

Dr. David W. Wardlaw passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, following a short illness. He was 71 years old. David was born Dec. 19, 1942 in Kansas City, MO, to Helen Louise Ganzer Wardlaw and Clyde Woodrow Wardlaw.

He spent his childhood years growing up in Shawnee Mission, KS. He graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1960.

David received his undergraduate education at Wichita State University and at the University of Kansas, and then studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry from which he graduated in 1967.

David served in the United States Army Dental Corps from 1967 to 1975, during which time he served in Vietnam, Germany and Fort Ord, among other places. It was during his time at Fort Ord that he developed his love for the Monterey Bay area.

Following his military service, David completed a residency in Periodontics at the University of California-San Francisco in 1977. He then returned to the Monterey Peninsula and entered private practice in Periodontics in Salinas, where he continued to practice until his passing.

David was a member of the American Dental Association, the Monterey Bay Dental Society, the Western Society of Periodontology, and the California Society of Periodontics.

David had many interests. He was an avid reader, especially of history. He loved cooking for his wife, Pam, and their friends. He enjoyed his daily walks, dining out and traveling abroad. David had many fond memories of time together with family and friends at his vacation home in Sunriver, OR. He especially enjoyed the company of his much loved cats.

David is survived by his wife, Pamela Jones of Salinas; his brother, Dale Wardlaw of Melbourne, Australia, and other family members. David will be missed by his family and his many friends and colleagues.

David's family would like to thank all who have offered love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP), P.O. Box 51083, Pacific Grove, CA 93950, or the Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps, P.O. Box 1884, Monterey, CA 93942.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., at the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula, 4590 Carmel Valley Road, Carmel.
