Elizabeth Johns Greenfield passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 in Pensacola, FL., surrounded by her family. She lived a rich and healthy life of 98 years.
She was born Nov. 27, 1915 in Duluth, MN, to Louise and Alfred Johns. She grew up there with her two brothers and one sister. She earned a degree in Nursing at the University of Minnesota in 1939 and shortly thereafter moved to California to establish her career.
Betty spent most of her life in Salinas with her husband, Howard and two children, Brice and Diane. She worked as an operating room nurse, head nurse, hospital administrator and, after retirement, volunteered as a hospice care nurse. She loved her golf, Dixieland jazz, bridge, crossword puzzles and travel. Betty's close friends appreciated her quick wit and sharp mind. People who knew her only briefly later in her life were impressed by her strength and determination and found her remarkable.
Betty is survived by her son, Brice Greenfield and his wife, Sandra; daughter, Diane Chacon and her husband, Tracy; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Nicole and Samantha, and six great-grandchildren. We will miss her bright mind and the way she could make us smile.
Elizabeth Johns Greenfield will be laid to rest aside her husband, Howard, at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto.
She requested no memorial services and donations be made to Hospice Care.
